Examples of our community impact:
Chippewa Valley Care Coalition — "The Last Days of Caring Community Collaborative"
"We have spent the summer recruiting community partners for The Last Days of Caring Community Collaborative. Our collective mission is to ensure self-sustaining, standardized, best-practice end-of-life care and training throughout the Chippewa Valley. The collaborative will create an end-of-life care training model for long-term care organizations' use with their direct care staff. The final Train-the-Trainer product will be offered at least twice annually to long-term care organizations in the Chippewa Valley. If the model is successful here, we may explore expansion into other communities or venues. Thank you, Eau Claire Community Foundation, for your support and encouragement! We certainly look forward to sharing our results!"
—Emilie Anderson, President, Chippewa Valley CARE Coalition
Eau Claire County UW Extension —
Tokens for Foodshare
Access to Farmers' Market
"The Token Program allows food insecure families the ability to utilize their FoodShare dollars to access healthy, affordable, locally-grown food at the Farmers' Market. Thanks to funds from the Eau Claire Community Foundation, the pilot program lunched July 21st. From July through August, $2,371 in tokens was purchased. Debit card customers utilizing the Token Program pay a $1 surcharge, helping to sustain the program. Of twenty-six participants surveyed, 16% were first-time Farmers' Market customers and 65% said they are eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. The program has received positive support from both patrons and vendors. Debit card customers comment that they are happy to pay the surcharge to support the program. Thanks Eau Claire Community Foundation!"
—Nancy Coffey, Nutrition Educator, and Melissa Gullickson,
Project Coordinator, Eau Claire County UW-Extension
Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum — Software Upgrade
"We have ordered and received PastPerfect software, which provides tools to produce a digital catalog of museum items with photos, keep track of loaned and borrowed items, and save valuable research and specific information about individual artifacts. This will provide proof for insurance of the artifacts we have in our museum in the event of a major theft or fire. The inventory will also help us see where we have needs for artifacts that we should try to acquire. We are thrilled to begin this new project this fall and thank the Eau Claire Community Foundation for partnering with us to make it possible."
—Diana Peterson, Executive Director, Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum
Reach, Inc. — "Victory Over Trauma" Veterans' Program
"The grant awarded to this program from the Eau Claire Community Foundation has already been put to use by awarding a veteran with enough funding to enable him to begin his process towards independence by obtaining his driver's license and other necessities. The funding received will allow veterans to obtain necessary "loans" to assist with job search and work clothes, initial travel costs, driver's license fees, etc. The fund is a "pay-back model;" those who borrow from it sign a contract for repayment of at least 50% of what was borrowed. Each recipient signs an agreement with the understanding that "payback" is a step in "paying forward" to assure future veterans will continue to have the fund as a resource."
—Maralene Strom, Veterans' Program Coordinator, Reach, Inc.
YMCA Camp Manitou — Shoreline Restoration
"Support from the Eau Claire Community Foundation has allowed us to initiate a long-term plan to maintain a resilient vegetative buffer that naturally prevents erosion. This summer we widened the un-groomed space along our shore with 50 trees and dozens of native shrubs, added 10 larger trees, and replaced a section of mowed lawn in front of our swim area with native grasses and shrubs. In areas along the shore that receive foot traffic we have begun laying wood chips, defining a path to minimize traffic on areas we are hoping to restore. Sharing our facility with more than 1,100 youth each summer we feel it is particularly important to be good stewards of our land. We are grateful for the financial support of the Eau Claire Community Foundation as well as the support of our neighbors and community."
—Brian Moore, Assistant Director, YMCA Camp Manitou
